As an emerging elder (I'm 73) and future ancestor, I'm always figuring out my place at the table and encouraging myself to speak even when my voice is shaky. I ask myself how to use the love force to transform any environment I am in. I find myself asking "What would Eleanor Roosevelt Do?" as I witness our world and its chaos.
I am a co-founder of the Community Equity Collaborative of the Brattleboro Area and chair two of their sub-committees: NAACP Health Justice and Diverse Workforce Development. For 15 years I fostered the WSESU Social Competency Development curriculum. I am now in transition and working towards retiring from the school district work - finding time to explore more deeply my moral and artistic imagination.
Over the past 5 months, I've been dealing with an ankle injury and am facing surgery this Fall. My mobility is really restricted right now. I'm going inward and wonder if the surgery and the long recovery it requires is an opportunity for me to explore another less public side of myself.
I live in Dummerston and meditate with 6 of my neighbors every morning. I have two daughters and a forgiving husband. I know how lucky I am. I know time is short and precious.
